AXA XL Insurance today announced the promotion of Marie Mahieu to Underwriting Manager, Environmental risks – France, effective September 1st, 2021. Ms. Mahieu replaces Aurélie Fallon Saint-Lo, who has been appointed to Head of P&C Underwriting & Business Strategy for Climate & Sustainability at AXA Group.

In her new role, Ms. Mahieu will manage AXA XL’s environmental insurance portfolio in France and develop innovative solutions to help France-based clients and brokers to manage their environmental exposures.

Julien Guénot, Country Leader, France, said: “Our clients are increasingly aware of the need to reduce their exposure to environmental risks. According to Insee, French companies invested over €1.7 billion to protect the environment in 2019, a 10% increase compared with the previous year. They also turn to their insurers to find solutions to mitigate and transfer these risks, both in France and abroad, through global programmes.”

Commenting on the appointment, Stéphane Tinturier, Head of Casualty underwriting, France, said: “I am delighted to see Marie take on this new role. Her strong background in environmental engineering and her extensive knowledge of the industry are assets to our clients and brokers. Her promotion is a testament to the talent of our people, within our underwriting team in France, and across AXA XL.”

Ms. Mahieu started her career as an environmental engineer working for GDF-Suez, she then moved to a consulting firm as a project manager specialising in soil and water remediation, serving industrial clients. She joined AXA XL in France as Underwriter, Environmental risks in 2016.
