AXA XL appoints Laurent Richème as Global Chief Underwriting Officer, Property
Paris - May 19, 2026
AXA XL today announced the appointment of Laurent Richème as Global Chief Underwriting Officer, Property.
In this role, Mr. Richème will lead the global underwriting strategy for AXA XL’s Property, Construction & Energy businesses, working closely with regional underwriting teams. He succeeds Juergen Cherreck, who will retire in July after 21 years at AXA XL.
Commenting on the appointment, Libby Benet, Global Chief Underwriting Officer at AXA XL, said: “Our clients are navigating an increasingly complex risk environment shaped by climate volatility, evolving supply chains, digital infrastructure expansion and changes in the global energy landscape. At the same time, the rapid growth of data centers, major infrastructure investments and large-scale energy projects is increasing demand for underwriting expertise that combines technical excellence with prevention-focused risk insight and resilience capabilities.
“Laurent’s deep technical expertise, market knowledge and collaborative approach make him exceptionally well positioned to support our clients and drive the continued development of our Property, Construction & Energy businesses.”
Mr. Richème brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance and risk engineering industry. He joined AXA Corporate Solutions in 2008 and has held several senior underwriting leadership roles across the organization, including Head of International Property and, since 2021, Chief Underwriting Officer, Property, Energy & Construction for APAC & Europe at AXA XL.
