Jonathan Gale

With more than three decades of experience, including working in the Lloyd’s, Bermuda and US markets, Jonathan is committed to addressing the protection gap issue and shares his insights on the topic via thought leadership reports and panel discussions.

Jonathan has served as AXA XL’s Chief Executive for Bermuda Reinsurance since 2017. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He started in the London and Lloyd’s market in 1987, specializing in US medical malpractice and in particular reinsurance of Physician Insurers Association of America companies and specialist Risk Retention Groups. He went on to work in the US US broker market, and starting in 2003 he spent almost five years in the Bermuda market running Catlin’s Bermuda underwriting business. In 2008 he returned to London to as Deputy Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2003 at Lloyd’s. He was promoted to Chief Underwriting Officer, Reinsurance, of Catlin’s London underwriting hub in 2014. Later he became Chief Executive, Reinsurance London, for XL Catlin and Joint Active Underwriter of Syndicate 2003, which at the time was the largest syndicate at Lloyd’s.
