NEW YORK, January 18, 2011 – XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), today announced the appointment of Joseph A. Tocco as Executive Vice President and head of North America Property and XL Global Asset Protection Services (XL GAPS), effective February 1. Reporting to Seraina Maag, Chief Executive of XL Insurance’s North America Property & Casualty (P&C) unit in New York, Mr. Tocco will direct XL’s property underwriting activities, including General Property and Energy Property business, and XL GAPS, a loss prevention consulting firm.According to Ms. Maag, “Joe brings a strong combination of underwriting and hands-on risk engineering experience and understands the value of delivering both loss prevention services and underwriting expertise hand-in-hand to provide our clients with more effective property protection. I am excited to see what Joe and his teams will accomplish together in 2011 and beyond.”Mr. Tocco joins XL Insurance from Zurich Financial Services where he most recently led the North American property group, Global Corporate Business Unit, and previously served as Northeast Regional Property Manager and National Director of Engineering Lines. During his career, he also held underwriting and risk engineering positions with Munich Re, Industrial Risk Insurers (IRI) and Hartford Steam Boiler.
