XL Group strengthens Surety insurance business in Latin America appoints Walkiria Melo as Surety Manager Latin America

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – September 8, 2014 — Like many emerging markets, most Latin American countries, and especially Brazil, have a critical need to build out their infrastructure in order to enable continued economic growth. With a vast pipeline of major projects, the need for Surety court bonds in the region is growing. To respond to these needs, XL Group has appointed Walkiria Melo as Surety Manager Latin America. Her responsibilities include developing XL’s Surety insurance business in Brazil and throughout Latin America. She is based in Sao Paulo and reports into David Hewett, XL Group’s Surety Insurance President, based in North America.David Hewett commented on the appointment, “I’m delighted to count on Walkiria as a highly qualified and experienced Surety professional who knows the local market very well. Ms. Melo holds a Bachelor degree in Economics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas, a Certificate of Advanced Studies from the Gavin School of International Management and an MBA in Finance.
