XL Group's International Casualty Business Strengthens Team to Respond to Increasing Demand for New Answers to Complex Risks

To meet the growing demand for innovative liability solutions throughout Europe, the International Casualty insurance operations of XL Group plc (NYSE: XL) announced that it has added seven seasoned underwriters to its team.

Underwriting Complex Accounts, led by Joachim Walch, adds Dr. Reiner Hoffmann as Lead Consultant, Underwriting Complex Accounts. Dr. Hoffmann brings sophisticated technical insurance industry expertise and the ability to craft complex structured single and multi-line solutions for industrial clients. He moves to XL Group from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) where he was Head of Corporate Solutions providing structured insurance solutions to large multinational companies on a worldwide basis and held responsibility for AGCS’ Captive insurance services. Dr. Hoffmann started his carrier at the liability department of HDI (Haftpflichtverband der Deutschen Industrie) in Stuttgart as Casualty Underwriter for national and international programs of large industrial direct clients. He has also developed a variety of industry specific software tools including a loss-database to analyze environmental claims, and a program for structuring and optimizing risk transfer products of corporate client programs and insurance company portfolios.
Joining the Underwriting Large Corporates team led by Reto Arrigoni includes:
Pelayo Aranguren, Senior Casualty Underwriter, Iberia & Latin America. Based in Madrid, Mr. Aranguran was previously at Aon where he held the role of Director of Liability Corporate Risks for Aon's Broking Centre in Spain. Mr. Aranguren’s career also included roles as Facultative Reinsurance Underwriter for Mapfre Re, Reinsurance Broker for former Aon Re Iberia and Junior Solicitor for a Spanish Law Firm. He holds a Degree in Law from the University “Complutense” of Madrid and a Masters Degree in Marine Law from the University “Pontificia de Comillas” of Madrid.
Denis Vrána, based in Vienna, takes on the role of Casualty Underwriter, Austria & Eastern Europe. Before joining XL Group, Mr. Vrána held the role of Liability Profit Center Manager at Chartis Insurance Company in the Czech Republic, where he was responsible for underwriting the entire Casualty business as well as managing the department. Mr. Vrána also held positions at Ceska Pojistovna where he was responsible for P&C business for Slovakia and as well as startup projects in Russia.
Carine Firan, Senior Underwriter, is based in Zurich and serves the French market. Ms. Firan comes from Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS) where she held the role of large corporate underwriter. She also worked as a liability underwriter for Chubb in Paris. She started her liability career in Paris with the French broker Gras Savoye.
Luca Ricca, Casualty Underwriter based in Milan, joined XL Group from Dual where he served as a D&O and professional indemnity underwriter. Prior to that Mr. Ricca worked for Zurich Financial Services as a Casualty Underwriter for the Middle Market segment. He holds a degree in law.
The Underwriting Environmental Liability team, led by Simon White, adds the technical and academic expertise of Anne-Gwenn Alexandre as Environmental Underwriter, based in France. Ms. Alexandre completed a PhD thesis on “Insurability and Insurance of Environmental Risks” andalso teaches management and insurance of environmental risks at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in France.Before joining XL Group Ms. Alexandre was an underwriter and legal counsel for AXA Solutions Collective in Paris, responsible for writing life insurance business in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Spain. She also gained broad experience as a claims analyst for AXA Liabilities Managers.
Daniel Alexander-Lothian, Environmental Underwriter, based in London brings extensive experience in complex environmental liability issues and risk assessment. He joins XL Group from RPS Health, Safety and Environment where he held the role of Senior Environmental Consultant responsible for conducting and managing multi-site environmental due-diligence audits, Phase I environmental liability reviews and Phase II investigations in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.
