XL Group has appointed Philippe Tamwelius as Professional Lines Manager for the Nordic region.

Commenting Peter Wullimann, XL Group’s General Manager for the Nordic region said: "Philippe will be managing our growth in all product lines of the business unit.

Our strategic focus combined with Philippe’s prior experience, means he will be driving the growth of our Professional Indemnity product offering."

Wullimann added: “There is a real need for these insurance products across the Nordics; companies are operating in an environment of accelerated change. Legal and regulatory issues continue to challenge CEOs and the Boards, but there are new risks too. Greater reliance on IT infrastructure for services and distribution has meant that data and cyber liabilities have been heightened to a new and unprecedented level and businesses are looking to the insurance market to provide innovative, relevant solutions. And that is a challenge both XL Group and Philippe embrace.”

Mr. Tamwelius joins XL Group from Markel Insurance Company Ltd, where he established and built the Financial Lines and Casualty portfolio in the Nordic and Baltic regions and Russia before being appointed to Underwriting Manager. In this role he was responsible for business underwritten in Stockholm including Financial Lines, Casualty, Cargo and other Marine classes for Markel Insurance Company Ltd and its Lloyd’s syndicate.

Over his 27-year insurance career, Mr Tamwelius has worked for RSA Scandinavia, AIG Europe S.A and Zurich Sweden.
