XL Group appoints Alex Howell as Senior Underwriter, Onshore Energy – Asia Pacific

XL Group has appointed Alex Howell as Senior Underwriter, Onshore Energy – Asia Pacific.Commenting, Philip Sexton, Head of Underwriting, Energy - International Property and Casualty at XL Group said: “Alex’s experience and expertise positions him very well for his new role. He will be focused on underwriting oil, gas, petrochemical and power and utilities risks, more specifically liquefied natural gas, storage, distribution and pipeline business.”Demand for insurance products for the energy market is expected to grow across Asia over the coming years. The Asia Development Bank’s Energy Outlook 2013 states that oil demand alone in Asia and the Pacific is projected to increase by 1.9% yearly over the outlook period and reach 1,973.0 Mtoe (Million Tons of Oil Equivalent) by 2035, 59.3% higher than the 1,238.2 Mtoe in 2010.Mr. Sexton added: “Alex’s appointment provides additional strength and depth to the Asia Pacific International Property and Casualty team as we further build our regional product suite.”Mr. Howell joins XL Group from the ACE Group where he managed the Global Markets Onshore Energy book.
