HAMILTON, BERMUDA – June 4, 2009 – XL Capital Ltd (“XL” or the “Company”) (NYSE: XL) today announced the appointment of Elizabeth L. Reeves as Executive Vice President and Head of Global Human Resources.Ms Reeves’ appointment is effective as of June 8. She succeeds Celia Brown who is retiring after serving XL and its predecessor companies for more than 20 years in numerous capacities, including Head of Human Resources and Corporate Relations for XL Capital Ltd and Chief Administrative Officer for XL’s insurance segment.Ms Reeves will report to XL’s Chief Executive Officer Michael S. McGavick. She will also serve on XL’s Leadership Team.Ms Reeves has held various senior Human Resources roles at global insurance and financial services companies.Prior to joining XL, Ms. Reeves was Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Liz Claiborne, Incorporated which designs and markets a global portfolio of retail-based premium brands. Liz Claiborne has more than 17,000 employees and is best known for its brands, Liz Claiborne, Kate Spade, Lucky Brand, Juicy Couture and Mexx. Before that she served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Lincoln Financial Group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 2005 to 2008. Lincoln Financial is a life and annuity provider with more than 10,000 employees. She was responsible for the HR integration activities during the merger of Lincoln and Jefferson Pilot Insurance in 2006. Additionally, she held the top HR role at ServiceMaster, a consumer services provider in Chicago, Illinois. Ms Reeves has previous experience in commercial insurance, where she was the Group Vice President of Human Resources at CNA Commercial Insurance in Chicago, CNA’s largest division.Ms Reeves’ career in Human Resources began at General Electric where she held positions of increasing responsibility within various divisions for more than 18 years. She is a graduate of the prestigious GE corporate Human Resources training program and most of her career was spent in the GE Aircraft Engines Group and GE Capital. During her last two years at GE Capital, she was responsible for the merger and integration of a French bank into GE Capital and the acquisition of an Irish Financial Services company.Commenting on Ms Reeves’ appointment, Mr. McGavick said: “We are pleased to have Beth join the XL Capital Group.
