This year's conferences will follow the same format as the first XL Congress in September 2003 in Montreux, Switzerland. The event will use thought-provoking international speakers to critically examine major economic, political and social issues to give delegates a better understanding of the changing face of risk and its evolving impact on the world.
Speakers addressing the XL Congress in Berlin next week will include Richard von Weizsäcker, President of Germany (1984-1994); José María Aznar, Prime Minister of Spain (1996-2004); The Rt. Hon. Lord Christopher Patten, Chancellor of Oxford University, last British Governor of Hong Kong (1992-1997) and former EU Commissioner; and Benazir Bhutto, former Prime Minister of Pakistan (1998-1990, 1993-1996).
A panel discussion titled "One World Without Borders - The Global Affect of Leadership Decisions" will also feature Huguette Labelle, Chair of Transparency International. Other speakers will include Steve Forbes, President and CEO Forbes Inc., Editor-in-Chief Forbes Magazine; and panellists Alan Brown, Director and Head of Investments - Schroders plc; Peter R. Fisher, Managing Director of BlackRock and Chairman of BlackRock Asia; Neil Ostrer, Co-founder and Director of European Investments - Marathon Asset Management Ltd; and Joachim Fels, Managing Director and Chief Global Fixed Income Economist and Strategist - Morgan Stanley.
XL President and Chief Executive Officer Brian M. O'Hara said: "Like the XL Congress held three years ago, it is our aim with the Berlin and Boston Congresses to provide a forum for the discussion of risk, not at the trade level, but in a socio-political context. We will consider the effects of global events on risk management strategies and attempt to broaden typical risk perceptions. I am challenging the attendees at this year's XL Congresses to contemplate risk as something we may not yet have seen or experienced; a challenge that traverses geographic, cultural, economic and business boundaries."
The speaker programme for the XL Congress in Boston will be announced closer to the conference date.
