The move follows increasing demand for food and beverage product contamination cover, especially for North American companies, with the passing of stricter regulation and introduction of mandatory recall authority for regulators overseeing certain food and beverages products.
John Turner joins the team in New York as Product Recall Manager for North America. He has more than 20 years of insurance market experience, including multi industry product recall and product liability cover in North America. Most recently Mr. Turner was Vice President and Head of Casualty at McLarens Young International in Boston.
Mark Hutton has joined the London office as Product Recall Manager for London market business. Mr. Hutton has 15 years of industry experience, specialising in product recall and product liability cover across the food & beverage, pharmaceutical and consumer goods sectors. He joins from McLarens Young International’s UK operation where he was head of Casualty having previously also worked at Lloyd’s Syndicate #3210 (Mitsui Sumitomo).
Mr. Turner and Mr. Hutton report to Ed Mitchell, Global Practice Leader for Product Recall. Commenting on the appointments, Mr Mitchell said: “The increased demand for product recall coverage is driven by some high profile and costly recalls over the last few years and also by the passing of stricter regulations under the US Food Safety Modernization Act which was signed by President Obama earlier this year.
“We continue to expand our coverage and expertise to provide comprehensive product recall protection. John and Mark will further enhance our underwriting and servicing capabilities. The new US law has highlighted the importance of risk management in food safety and we look forward to supporting policyholders through our underwriting approach which integrates policy coverage with Response XL, our risk engineering and crisis management service.”
