XL Group’s International Financial Lines business announces that Mark Thorpe has joined the Group as Underwriting Manager - Southern Region, to further build its presence in key Australian states.
Over recent months, XL Group’s International Financial Lines business has made some significant senior hires as the group seeks to increase its share of the Professional Indemnity, commercial Director & Officers and Financial Institutions insurance market.
The southern states are of particular interest to XL Group because of current and ongoing spending on Government infrastructure projects which has increased insurance placement opportunities.
Commenting on Mr. Thorpe’s appointment, Ramesh Singh, XL Group’s Head of Financial Lines in Australia said: “We are looking to grow our book of Financial Lines business in Australia and Mark has the credentials to help us do just that. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with a real specialism in Financial Lines. This experience will stand him in good stead to really drive our growth as we continue to expand our appetite.”
Mr. Thorpe joins XL Group from Ace Insurance Ltd, Melbourne, where he was a Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines from 2011. Prior to this he worked in Financial Lines roles at SRS Underwriting Agency, Insurance Australia Group Ltd and Planned Professional Risk. Mr. Thorpe is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.
